We went to the RAF Museum at Hendon in north London, not far from Grandma’s house. For me (Tom) this was the best thing in the trip so far.
They had massive hangars with fighter planes and helicopters from all eras, from the first planes to modern fighter jets.
We saw a Lancaster night bomber, like one of the ones Dd’s dad was a navigator in during WWII. He was shot down twice, but survived.
Ed and I had a turn in a Provost jet trainer (not up in the air, though). We also walked through a Sunderland sea plane – they are huge.
There was lots of information to take in about the planes. I am hoping to go to the Duxford Air Show before we leave, which has many of these sorts of planes on display and flying.
- We visited the RAF Museum in Hendon, London, with Grandma, and saw a Lancaster just like the one our Grandfather flew in (Dad’s dad). He was shot down twice, but escaped unhurt.
- Yep, that’s us in the training fighter jet!
